 The 3rd edition of the NACD has come and gone. A big "thank you' to everyone who attended and a special thanks to our artists who participated. The inaugural Nassau Art At The Callahan Depot was held on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. Our first art show had 6 Nassau County artists:  Sharon Farren, William Maurer, Lavonna Newman, Sharon Sandesky, Rose Threatte, and James Widerman. The judges were art teachers from the four county high schools. It was well attended with several hundred visitors who viewed the art work and chatted with the artists.

The West Nassau Historical Society has announced the winners of their 6th edition of Nassau Art at the Callahan Depot art show (NACD) held this past Saturday inside the historic Callahan train station. Nearly 200 patrons visited the 2.5 hour judged art exhibit where 15 adult artists and over a dozen high school students residing in Nassau County displayed their works. They chatted with over a dozen artists as thy mingled through the quaint 137-year building filled with over 60 pieces of art work. They were also given a ballot so they could vote on their favorite piece. After the show closed, the Historical Society hosted an hour-long luncheon for the artists while Jacksonville artist Pablo Rivera examined the nearly 40 art pieces that the artists had selected to be judged. At 1:30 pm, the winners were announced during a public awards ceremony and reception. Each first place adult winner received a $50 gift card and each of the top 4 student artists were given a $25 gift card. The top 3 paintings plus the top artworks from photography and 3-D art will be on display this week at the Judge Foster Justice Center in Yulee then during the following weeks at the Amelia Island Museum of History, Vystar CU Callahan Branch, and finally Southeastern Bank Hilliard branch. Pictures of all the entrants and winners can be seen on the West Nassau Historical Society's Facebook page. The all-volunteer nonprofit's mission is to discover and promote Nassau County history. They are also an active member of Arts and Culture Nassau, an advocacy group for the promotion of the arts throughout the county. West Nassau Historical Society Seeks Nassau County Artists for their 12th annual NACD Art Show on January 27, 2024 

   The West Nassau Historical Society is actively seeking local adult and student artists to participate in their 12th annual Nassau Art at the Callahan Depot (NACD) art show. The judged event is designed to provide a venue to showcase the many talented artists who reside or attend a middle or senior high school in Nassau County, Florida. The art exhibit will be held inside the historic Callahan Train Depot located at 45383 Dixie Avenue on Saturday, January 27, 2024. The quaint ambiance of the 143- year-old station and museum offers the perfect venue for local artists to display their works, while giving the public a chance to check out many historic photos and artifacts on display inside the depot. Adult artists will be judged on 3 art works each, but may have more art works for sale in our designated art shop. The all-volunteer nonprofit organization hopes all Nassau County artists will visit their web site www.wnhsfl.org for entry applications and art show information. Deadline for entering is noon on Friday, January 19.

  Prizes will be awarded to the adult artists with the best art work in three categories: painting, photography, and 3-D art. The public attending the NACD event will also be given a chance to vote for their favorite art work with that artist receiving a People's Choice award. Gift cards and other prizes will be awarded to the top winners of each category. The students' art works will also be judged and the winners awarded prizes. The NACD art show is open to the public from 10 AM to 2:30 PM, with a one hour break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. The iconic 1881 Train Depot will be closed for this hour to allow for the art entries to be judged. During this intermission members of the Historical Society will serve a luncheon for the artists and sponsors inside the train station annex. The Depot will then reopen to the public at 1:30 PM with refreshments and the awards ceremony. Admission to the 12th edition of the NACD art show is free but donations are always appreciated.

of Their 8th Annual NACD Art Show

The West Nassau Historical Society would like to thank everyone who attended our 8th edition of Nassau Art at the Callahan Depot art show and sale held on January 25th. Over 220 visitors attended the annual juried event held inside the historic 1881 train station. 20 Nassau County artists displayed over 50 of their paintings, photographs and 3-D art while students from 5 local schools exhibited an addition 51 pieces of art. Some local artists also made scores of their works available for sale in our Art Shop. Thank you Nassau County artists and students! While the exhibition was being judged, historical society members and friends with support from Callahan Subway and Callahan BBQ hosted a delicious luncheon for the artists.
